Ransom & Randolph was founded in 1872 to provide supplies, instruments and furniture for
barbers, doctors and dentists. In the 1900s, R&R developed many revolutionary products for industrial, jewelry and dental investment casting applications. These products included
investment for casting gold dental inlays (1906), the first vacuum casting appliance (1919), industrial solid mold investments for World War II production (1940s), the first high temperature,
water-based investment for ferrous metals, and Ultra-Vest® investment for jewelry casting (1964).
In 1964, R&R was purchased by DENTSPLY International and began operating as a DENTSPLY division.
At this time, R&R began to distribute ceramic shell binders and refractories. In the mid-1980s, R&R developed and began manufacturing high performance, water-based binders for ceramic shell
investment casting.
