EHT binder

Ransom & Randolph developed EHT binder to meet the special demands of the high temperature cassting market. Both directional solidification (DS) and single crystal( SC) casting processes expose the shells to a high temperature (~1500C) for a long period of time (~2 hours) under the load

of metal melt. The rigorous processes require the shells to possess adequate high temperature strength and creep resistance at levels that are much more stringent than those normally required in commercial foundries. EHT binder provides DS/SC casters with:

• High hot and post-fired strength (after firing at 1000C or higher)
• Binder & slurry stability - even with zircon refractory
• Excellent slurry coating & adhesion characteristics
• A polymer-free binder

These characteristics allow for successful creation of shells with the specific geometric complexity of the trailing edge of a blade casting. EHT binder is ideal for foundries that pre-fire shells, allow them to cool and then reheat them to cast at 1000C (1832F) or higher. It is production-proven in directional solidification and single crystal application for the past year.
